My New Years resolution for 2015 was to share more of my everyday life with you, to increase variety of topics on the blog, which focus on my love for fashion, my day to day life, my workout routine and healthy lifestyle. Simply, everything what inspires me.
Shortly before Christmas I let my workout slide. Why? I can’t even tell. I guess, the Christmas- stress just got to me, and after a while it is very easy to find or create reason not to work out. My fatigue got worse every day. The longer I don’t work out, the more tired I get.
The result of this lack of workout: bad mood, dissatisfaction, physically and mentally not feeling well and a huge writer’s block and lack of ideas.
To conquer your weaker self after a break like that is even harder then starting to workout for the first time. Today I have 10 tips for you, which will prevent you from fighting against your weaker self in the first place. 10 tips how you will stick to your workout plan, how not give up and not letting things slide.
1. Set personal goals
Nothing is more motivating then a personal goal. Your mind will be focused on reaching those goals and make it easier for you to keep going. Might that be the 5k mark on your daily runs or 100 sit-ups in a row, it is totally up to yourself. You gotta know your limits and set your goals just right above, so you push yourself every time just a little bit further. It is very important that the milestones you want to reach are realistic and reachable, even in your daily routine. Your workout-plan has to fit in your weekly schedule.
2. Work out on a regular basis
Hang in there! Try to exercise regularly, create a routine. The longer you pausing, the bigger your inner beast gets and you loose the shape you worked for so hard. So, get your planner, mark your workout days and stick to it! Don’t fool yourself, the only one paying for it is you! From personal experience I can tell, that it gets easier the longer you are exercising. But well, you heard that one before! Just go for it!
3. Varied workout-plan
No one likes to do the same exercise over and over again. Not only is it no fun, but also no good. You got to vary your exercises to improve your overall-shape. For example, if you run 10k every other day, you might be in good shape when it comes to endurance, but does not mean you can lift a 10kg weight. In order to improve your physical shape, you have to train your whole body, train muscles you didn’t even know exist, do endurance training and rotate the exercises. If you are in a gym, just go ask a coach, he will help you learn new exercises, give tips on how to execute them correctly and point out the ideal timing. You prefer working out by yourself, but are lacking ideas? I can recommend the YouTube channels Blogilates and BeFit. There you will find a lot of tips and tricks, free workout-plans and a lot of input on fitness in general.
4. Music, music, music
To me, music during exercising is a must. If I have the right music, it is more likely that I push myself further and keep going. Music motivates me and makes the training more fun. So, go to your computer and create your own workout-playlist! Your playlist should contain power songs and songs with fast rhythms. This music will let you overcome your limits and get over your barriers in your head. Right now I am listening to the OCJ-Playlist during my workouts. You can download it for free.
5. Download fitness apps
By now there are zillions of fitness apps out there.Apps which help you plan your workout, apps which let you train with others, apps that track your improvements. Those can be very helpful to keep going and stick to your plan. Most of them have reminders, which push you to workout on a daily basis. I can recommend Freeletics, Runtastic & Workout Trainer.
6. Look for a partner in crime
A problem shared is a problem halved. Anything you do together with a friend, family, colleague is more fun then doing it alone. So get out there and look for someone to train with you. Not only will it increase you motivation, but help you to not get tempted to cheat on yourself. And obviously it is more fun!
7. Get yourself the right cloths
One of the most important basics for your workout: find the right shoes! If you are running frequently, go to a sports shop, get recommendations from a professional, so you find the perfect shoe for you. It is very important that the shoe supports your feet perfectly, that it stabilizes your feet, so that your joints and knees don’t get hurt. Same applies to fitness shoes. Also very important: the right cloths for you. Even though it is not necessary at all to dress up for your workout, if you wear cloths you feel comfortable in it can be a game changer, can motivate you and increase your self confidence. On the pictures you can see my favorite sporty cloths at the moment. As in my daily looks, I like it if the pieces match. So I chose a combination of neon colors, grey and black.
8. Enjoy yourself!
It is important to have fun during your workout. So, try a lot and find the right exercise for you. Let it be running, Pilates or HIIT, it is totally up to you. Just go and have fun!
9. Think positive
I am not good enough – I don’t want anymore – I wanna go home – I don’t see any improvement …those are all negative thoughts, which you should extract from your mind. Think positive! You will be surprised what a huge impact it will have on your willpower. Instead of looking on what you didn’t achieve, you should be proud of what you did! You gotta cheer for yourself! Tip: count out loud the repetitions of your exercises!
10. Reward yourself
Now that you reached a goal you set, reward yourself! This can be anything: a day at the spa, a favorite dish, a new sports shirt, whatever makes you happy! This will remind you how far you have gotten and that you accomplished your own goals!
Just do it
